The Influence of European Winemakers on the Finger Lakes Wine Region  finger lakes.org In recent years, the Finger Lakes has garnered acclaim as “one of the greatest Riesling regions of the world” and “America’s premier cool-climate wine region.” Some of that success has been shaped by a handful of European Winemakers who have blended the best of old-world traditions, training, and experience with new-world innovation, a willingness to experiment and to share ideas, and the flexibility to adjust to any given situation.   Wineries featured:

  • Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

  • Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard

  • Ravines Wine Cellars

  • Domaine LeSeurre Winery

  • Weis Vineyards

  • Kemmeter Wines

  • Bully Hill Vineyards

You can learn about these exceptional winemakers, their wineries, and a shared philosophy of transparent winemaking in the new documentary video The Influence of European Winemakers on the Finger Lakes Wine Region

Generally visuals help us grasp concepts more clearly.  That was the intent in 1992 when the Food Pyramid was introduced by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  It went through some revisions.  Some were helpful; some were not; some were unpopular. Read more.

Ham

Ham is a very versatile meat.  It is the main feature or a garnish.  Hams are cured, which means salt is used to draw the liquid from the meat and, thus, preserve it.  Smoking is another preservation process. Read More.
