Thompson Offering Walk-in Mammograms Throughout April

Throughout the month of April, UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Breast Imaging Center in Canandaigua is offering walk-in mammograms, with no appointment necessary. The special offer is designed to give patients who – due to the pandemic – missed their 2020 mammograms. It is also for patients who are otherwise overdue for mammography screening.

Through April 30, the walk-in mammograms are available 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Fridays. Although the Breast Imaging Center is open on Saturday mornings, Saturday mammograms are still by appointment only, as are late-afternoon and evening mammograms.

Anyone who is seeking a walk-in mammogram and has questions or concerns is welcome to call the front desk at (585) 396-6651, as is anyone wishing to make an appointment.

Designated by the American College of Radiology as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, Thompson’s Breast Imaging Center is affiliated with F.F. Thompson Hospital and located across the street from the hospital at Lakeside Professional Park, 195 Parrish St., Suite 103. For more information about its services, visit

Thompson Taking Applications for CNA Training

In partnership with Finger Lakes Community College, UR Medicine Thompson Health is offering a five-week training course for individuals interested in becoming certified nursing assistants (CNAs) at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua.

Classes are expected to start in early May. Students will participate primarily from home, so they must have a desktop or laptop with a camera and Wi-Fi capability in order to attend. Some portions of the five-week course will be in-person, however. The classes are full-time, primarily Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and attendance is mandatory.

Thompson Health covers the full tuition, and participants receive payment while taking the class. They are hired into a CNA position at M.M. Ewing, a 178-bed skilled nursing facility. The position will most likely be part-time, on a specific unit and shift, and will include weekends and holidays. After academic and clinical training is complete, course participants are scheduled to take the New York State CNA Examination. Upon successful completion of the certification exam, participants are assigned an hourly rate and go through an additional three-week clinical orientation, with preceptors on their specific units.

It is requested that all successful course participants remain employed by the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center – in a full- or part-time position – for at least one year from certification.

Wagner Vineyards Estate Winery is one of the oldest wineries in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. It’s also one of the most recognized, having opened in 1979 on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake. By now, the fourth and fifth generations of the Wagner family are overseeing an operation that now includes the winery, a restaurant (The Ginny Lee Cafe) that opened in 1983 and a brewing operation that opened in 1997 (Wagner Valley Brewing Co.).

Featured wine from Miles Wine Cellars:

Ghost is a light, semi-dry Chardonnay blend that is crisp and refreshing. Ghost is 25% off in the tasting room and online now through April 30th.
