Lymphedema Support Group Meets Aug. 20

UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a Lymphedema Support Group on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 6 p.m. at its Canandaigua Rehabilitation Center, 699 S. Main St.

The group is facilitated by Occupational Therapist and Licensed Massage Therapist Angela Kiklowicz, whose certifications include certification in Complete Decongestive Therapy for the treatment of lymphedema and other chronic swelling disorders.

‘Protect and Prevent: Vaccine Essentials for Seniors’ Set for Aug. 27

The community is invited to attend a free and educational presentation, “Protect and Prevent: Vaccine Essentials for Seniors,” on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. in Rayburn Hall at Ferris Hills at West Lake, located at 1 Ferris Hills Drive in Canandaigua.

This presentation is hosted by Thompson Health and will feature presenters Joy Snyder, PharmD, MPH, BCACP, and Melodie Kolmetz, PA. No registration is required.

So, you are gawking at the array of baking additives and spices in the store and you see this stuff called cream of tartar. Or, you find a recipe that calls for the ingredient. Or, you are helping to clean out mom’s or grandmom’s pantry and find a can of the stuff. What the heck is it and why would you want it? Read More.

Zucchini Noodles

Zucchini is a favorite summer squash. It can be confused with a cucumber, but zucchini has a little crown at the blossom end and a cucumber does not. It can be prepared and served using a variety of methods including raw, baked, mashed, fried. Seasonings that pair well with it include basil, marjoram, oregano, and/or rosemary. When shopping for it, look for those that have an even shape, smooth skin, and heavy for its size. Read More.
