Protect and Prevent: Vaccine Essentials for Seniors’ Set for Aug. 27

The community is invited to attend a free and educational presentation, “Protect and Prevent: Vaccine Essentials for Seniors,” on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 3 to 4 p.m. in Rayburn Hall at Ferris Hills at West Lake, located at 1 Ferris Hills Drive in Canandaigua.

This presentation is hosted by Thompson Health and will feature presenters Joy Snyder, PharmD, MPH, BCACP, and Melodie Kolmetz, PA. No registration is required.

Four Receive Thompson’s Service Excellence Award

UR Medicine Thompson Health recently named four people as second-quarter 2024 Service Excellence Award winners.

Recipients of the quarterly award are chosen by the health system’s Service Excellence Team, which reviews compliments from patients, families, and coworkers submitted by system leaders.

Chosen for the honor by the health system’s Service Excellence Team (SET) were:

  • Bryon Campbell of Canandaigua, a physician assistant in Urgent Care.

  • Dr. Ayad Sadda of Victor, a hospitalist in Thompson’s Department of Hospital Medicine.

  • Jayson Villeneuve of Rochester, a physician assistant with URMC Imaging Sciences.

  • Dr. David Waldman of Canandaigua, also from URMC Imaging Sciences.

Each recipient of the Service Excellence Award is featured in CEO presentations as well as on Thompson’s intranet site and in its internal newsletter.

There is never a wrong time to sip a well-made sparkling wine. It goes with every meal, every celebration, every moment alone sitting on your front porch. 

New York wine producers technically can’t make Champagne. That honorific can be given only to bubbly made in the Champagne region of France using specific grapes and made in a specific way. New York winemakers can, however, produce sparkling wine using those same grapes and the same method that the most celebrated Champagne Houses employ, often with very similar, delicious results. 

Excellent “methode Champonoise” sparkling wines are produced throughout the Empire State, but it’s in the Finger Lakes where the production of these beautiful bubbles is steadily increasing, with good reason.“This region is built for sparkling, and I don’t know why it’s not more famous, to be honest,” says Glenn Allen, co-owner and general manager of Damiani Wine Cellars on Seneca Lake. “We have this cool climate that lends itself perfectly to creating high-acid grapes. The region produces these wonderful high acid flavorful grapes because of the climate.”

“If you try sparkling from just about any producer here you can find one that’s quite exceptional,” says Allen. Damiani also makes world-class sparkling wine, and now it has a New York Wine Classic win in the category. Read More.

Children Returning to School

Regular classes have resumed in many parts of the country and more will start after Labor Day.
