    A REVIEW

www.konstantinbaum.comCabernet Franc is by no means a new varietal. It has been around for a long time - so long that it is the father of not only one but two of the most famous grapes in the world. Thanks to DNA Profiling scientists, established that Cabernet Sauvignon is a natural crossing of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc. It also fathered Merlot together with Magdeleine Noire des Charentes. However, the other family members achieved fame in the 20th century, but Cabernet Franc stayed in obscurity. It was the safety net and salt in the soup for Bordeaux blends and was rarely in the spotlight. The variety is suited to cooler climates such as the Chinon and Bourgueil Appellations of the Loire, where it is vinified as a monovarietal. Watch above as Konstantin Baum explores Cabernet Francs from around the world, including Osmote's 2021 Seneca Lake Cabernet Franc from the Finger Lakes.

    Lunar New Year 2024

Not all cultures or religions use the same calendar.  Generally, for consistency, countries use the Gregorian calendar, which is the one we are all used to with the first day of the new year January 1.  There are also liturgical calendars to record religious events and celebrations. Read More.

    Propagating Thanksgiving and Christmas Cacti

Perhaps you were gifted with a Thanksgiving or Christmas cactus (both Schlumbergera) and are wondering how to handle it now that it is outgrowing its pot.  Well, there are two methods and you get to choose which you would prefer. Read more.

    Lunar New Year Menu

It is always fun to incorporate other cultures into your dining habits.  So, instead of going to your favorite Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, or other Asian restaurant during the lunar new year celebration period, fix some items in your very own kitchen.  You might need to patronize a specialty grocery store, but it will be worth the trip. Read More.
