Thompson’s New Visitor Policy Effective March 1
Effective March 1, F.F. Thompson Hospital will have a new check-in process for all visitors to hospital inpatients as well as visitors who are accompanying patients to the hospital’s Emergency Department.
The process mirrors one Thompson Health instituted at the neighboring M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center last October. Visitors will stop at the Information Desk, provide a driver’s license, and obtain a one-day sticker to serve as their visitor pass. Upon departure, visitors will return their pass to the desk.
Manager of Volunteers/Information Desk Brandy Collett said since Thompson launched the policy at the Continuing Care Center last fall, it has been well-received by family members and other visitors.
“Staff have worked diligently to make the process as efficient as possible and we’ve been able to establish this same procedure for all visitors to our Birthing Center unit in the hospital,” she said, noting a number of Rochester hospitals have similar check-in policies, as do some of the local school districts.
Collett added, “Requiring visitors to check in and be issued a visitor’s pass provides an added layer of safety for our patients and staff and is an extra security measure for our facilities.”
‘From Punches to Prevention’ at FLCC March 13
On Thursday, March 13, UR Medicine Thompson Health will host “From Punches to Prevention: Hidden Dangers of Concussions” from 6 to 8 p.m. at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive in Canandaigua.
Ray Ciancaglini, a former professional boxer and nationally recognized concussion awareness advocate, is the keynote speaker.

Ray Ciancaglini
Ray, who played a key role in passing both New York’s Concussion Management Awareness Act and the federal Professional Boxing Safety Act, has dedicated his life to educating young athletes, families, schools, and communities about the dangers of untreated concussions.
