🌟 Finger Lakes Business & Community News

Just Breathe Named Business of the Month. The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce honored Just Breathe Finger Lakes Legal Dispensary with its February Business of the Month award during a Business After Hours event in Waterloo. Owner Daniel Dennis operates the dispensary in Tyre, Seneca County, and has made community giving a cornerstone of the business — supporting the Beverly Animal Shelter, Seneca Veterans Housing, the Montezuma VFW, and the Seneca County House of Concern. The shop also hosts live music, vendor events, and food trucks during warmer months. Read More

Twisted Rail Brewing Expands to Manchester with Beer & Cannabis. Twisted Rail FLX is bringing its popular combination of craft beer and cannabis to Manchester, Ontario County, taking over the former Roy's Restaurant site on Route 96. Co-owner Ian Boni confirmed that renovations are underway, with the cannabis shop potentially opening as early as late March and the restaurant following by Memorial Day. The new location will feature separate spaces for Twisted Rail Brewing Co. and Twisted Cannabis FLX under one roof. Read More

Wayne County Cannabis Business to Star in Reality TV Series. A Wayne County cannabis operation is heading to the small screen, as camera crews began filming an eight-part reality series following Honest Pharm Co. and its founder Jeremy Jimenez. Crews also captured the grand opening of The New Haze & Harvest dispensary on Route 31 in Newark — the village's very first legal cannabis shop, opened February 21 after more than four years of delays. The series is expected to stream this summer on Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Read More

ShimaShima Bags: A Sustainable Maker Story from the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes Times profiled ShimaShima Bags, a family-owned maker business run by Maryse Gregoire and her husband Taka Mori, which creates sustainable handbags using traditional Japanese tatami mat border fabric. The fabric is woven on Jacquard looms in the Mori family's third-generation business in Japan, and Gregoire — a Finger Lakes native who returned home in 2019 — oversees the entire production process with a focus on sustainability and keeping plastics out of local waterways. Goodwill of the Finger Lakes Sets Spring Grand Opening in Chili. Goodwill of the Finger Lakes announced it will open a brand-new retail location in the Town of Chili (Monroe County) in April, expanding its presence in the greater Finger Lakes region. The new store will create local jobs and provide additional drop-off and retail options for the community. Goodwill of the Finger Lakes serves more than 50 counties across upstate New York. Thompson on ‘Top Places to Work in Healthcare’ List for 9th Time

Becker's Healthcare recently named UR Medicine Thompson Health to its “165 Top Places to Work in Healthcare” list.

With more than 2,200 associates, Thompson is the largest employer in Ontario County and also has locations in Livingston and Wayne counites. This marks its ninth appearance on the Becker’s list.

President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton, Jr. said the recognition “reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive, empowering and positive workplace where our associates can thrive both personally and professionally.”

“We are proud to be part of this prestigious list once again and grateful to our incredible associates who make it all possible. Their commitment and dedication to Thompson and our community is inspiring,” Stapleton said.

According to Becker's Healthcare, a Chicago-based media platform serving healthcare decision-makers, the Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team developed this list based on nominations and editorial research. Organizations cannot pay for inclusion.

Regional Stroke Support Group Meets Via Zoom March 5

The regional Stroke Support Group hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, via Zoom.

The group is open to stroke survivors as well as their loved ones and caregivers. The topic for the March 5 meeting is “Tips for Speech Recovery at Home When Speech Therapy Ends.” To be added to the invite list for the meeting, email [email protected].

F.F. Thompson Hospital is a New York State Department of Health-designated Stroke Center and has advanced certification from The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. The hospital is also a recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®  Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally accepted, research-based guidelines.

All animals have adaptations to defend themselves from predators. Animal armor, weapons, and abilities are all crucial when it comes to defense, but the ways animals defend themselves differ greatly from species to species. From spikes, scales, armor and more, this program is designed to teach how different species of animals adapt to protect themselves in the wild. Additionally, in this program our Wildlife Rockstars will speak about how we can defend ourselves by preventing head injuries.

Roots Cafe Presents Ramen Nights

As winter settles over the Finger Lakes region, Roots Cafe is answering the call for warmth and comfort with steaming bowls of handcrafted ramen. The quarterly series will feature carefully prepared broths, fresh noodles, and traditional toppings that showcase the cafe’s commitment to quality ingredients and culinary craftsmanship.

“Ramen is the ultimate comfort food,” said Mandy Gorton, owner of Roots Cafe. “There’s something special about gathering around a bowl of hot, flavorful noodles on a cold winter evening. We’re excited to bring this experience to our community and create a new seasonal tradition at Roots Cafe.”

The 2026 Ramen Nights schedule includes:

  • February 27 & 28

  • March 20 & 21

  • April 24 & 25

Each ramen night will feature [describe what’s offered – e.g., “a selection of traditional and creative ramen bowls, from classic tonkotsu to vegetarian options, along with appetizers and sides that complement the Japanese-inspired menu”].

Roots Cafe has built a reputation in Naples for innovative seasonal offerings that go beyond typical small-town dining. The Ramen Nights series continues this tradition, transforming the cozy cafe into a destination for adventurous food lovers seeking authentic flavors and warm community connection.
