Thompson to Host Jan. 25 Job Fair

UR Medicine Thompson Health will host a job fair at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

With on-site interviews, the job fair will be held in the hospital’s Constellation Center for Health and Healing, so those attending should enter the campus from West Street and park in the lot behind the hospital.

Thompson’s open positions include nursing, clinical support, nutrition services, environmental services, clerical/customer service, patient registration and recreation therapy.

The minimum starting wage at Thompson is $15 per hour. Tuition assistance – for staff members pursuing further education – is up to $6,000 per year for those employed full-time and up to $3,000 per year for those working part-time.

M.M. Ewing Nurses, CNAs Honored

The M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, UR Medicine Thompson Health’s skilled-nursing facility in Canandaigua, honored members of its nursing staff in December with annual awards.

Vice President of Long-Term Care Amy Daly and Director of Nursing Diane Hayton presented awards the following:

Julie Brooks, LPN, of Canandaigua, as Nurse of Distinction for Collaboration. Brooks works on a unit called The Pines.
Sue Shively, RN, of Canandaigua, as Nurse of Distinction for Clinical Reasoning. Shively works on the facility’s Skilled Transitional Unit (STU).
Darlene Johnson, of Canandaigua, as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) of Distinction for Caring Practices. Johnson works on The Pines unit.
Jennifer Lawrence, of Rushville, as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) of Distinction for Collaboration. Lawrence is a Rehabilitation Services aide at the facility.

Nominees for the awards were honored by Daly and Hayton as well.

The M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, which is adjacent to Thompson Hospital, marked its 50

anniversary in 2021. The facility has 178 beds, offering post-hospital services, dementia care and other long-term care services.

Scott Edward Signori, the chef and owner of the Stonecat Café in Hector, died on Dec. 26, 2021, after a 16-month battle with glioblastoma. He was 54.

Mr. Signori was a pioneer in the farm-to-table movement in the Finger Lakes and helped establish a national reputation for the region's culinary scene.

This week's wine pic comes from Billsboro Winery, with Vinny Aliperti. "You may not know this, but one of Vinny's first winemaking gigs was at Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Long Island. After three vintages, he started his next chapter in the FLX at Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard, eventually joining Atwater Wine as head winemaker. Even after purchasing Billsboro in 2006, Vinny remains the head winemaker at Atwater, where he makes wines for both Billsboro and Atwater.

Tax Time Preparation

It’s time again to think about your annual income tax return. Now is the time to organize your documents as they are available. Create an electronic basket to store them and then print copies for a physical file. This includes receipts for deductible expenses and contributions.
