Thompson Welcomes Gastroenterology Practice

A longtime Canandaigua gastroenterology practice recently joined UR Medicine Thompson Health.

Now called Thompson Health Gastroenterology and located in Suite 201 at 3170 West St. in Canandaigua, the practice was established in 2000 by Dr. Raymond M. Thomas and was located for many years on nearby Parrish Street.

Thomas, who has had privileges at F.F. Thompson Hospital since 1995, is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with specialty certification in gastroenterology and hepatology. He is a graduate of the University of Rochester who did his residency, internship, and fellowship at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The doctor is joined at Thompson Health Gastroenterology by Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Louise Linke and Adult Nurse Practitioner Allison VanPutte, both of whom were colleagues of his at the Parrish Street practice. Linke is a graduate of Elmhurst University in Illinois who received her master’s degree at Nazareth University in Rochester. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. VanPutte received her bachelor’s from Syracuse University and her master’s from the University of Rochester. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Stroke Support Group Meets Via Zoom Feb. 6

The regional Stroke Support Group hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health will meet at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, via Zoom.

F.F. Thompson Hospital is a New York State Department of Health-designated Stroke Center and has advanced certification from The Joint Commission as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center. The hospital is also a recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines

 Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally accepted, research-based guidelines.

Chinese New Year 2025

In Asian culture, their lunar new year begins January 29 of this year.  So, until February 16 of next year, we get to celebrate the Year of the Snake. The snake is the sixth sign of this zodiac.  Responding to Buddah's call to animals, the snake positioned itself on the horse's hoof to catch a ride, especially through the water.  When the animals reached their destination, the snake jumped off and frightened the horse, thus moving the serpent into sixth place and leaving the poor horse one notch later. Read More.
