Shively Presented with DAISY Award at Thompson
Victoria Shively of Canandaigua received The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses from UR Medicine Thompson Health nursing leadership on Jan. 15.
Shively is a member of the Nursing Floats Department at F.F. Thompson Hospital. She was nominated by Richard Gaudy of Pittsford as a result of his care at the hospital.

Gaudy, who was on hand for the surprise award presentation, said Shively had excellent attention to detail, was exceptionally adept at explaining what was going on, and displayed a great demeanor. “Timely, efficient, friendly and a total desire to satisfy patient needs. Outstanding!” he wrote.
Shively received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called
A Healer’s Touch
. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation.

Thompson to Host Feb. 6 Hiring Event in Newark
UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a hiring event from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Campus, 131 Drumlin Court in Newark.
Recruiters will be on hand at the event, sharing information about Thompson and its benefits, opportunities for advancement, tuition assistance, and more.
Current openings include patient care positions, administrative opportunities, and entry-level jobs.
The health system is Ontario County’s largest employer and was on the “Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare” list published by

Planetary Alignment
Astronomers tell us that there will be a unique situation where six planets will be in a line with ours. Around the end of this month, this week, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, and Saturn will all line up with Earth. Anyone will be able to see Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn, but you will need a telescope or very strong binoculars to catch a glimpse of Neptune and Uranus. Read More.

Groundhog Day Recipes
So the story goes, when a groundhog pops out of its hole on February 2, if he (never a she?) sees its shadow (i.e. the sun is out), the critter will become fearful and hibernate for another six weeks, through the rest of the winter.
