Lymphedema Support Group Meets June 18

UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a Lymphedema Support Group on Tuesday, June 18, from 5 to 6 p.m. at its Canandaigua Rehabilitation Center, 699 S. Main St.

The group is facilitated by Occupational Therapist and Licensed Massage Therapist Angela Kiklowicz, whose certifications include certification in Complete Decongestive Therapy for the treatment of lymphedema and other chronic swelling disorders.

Thompson Offers Senior Fitness Training

Thompson Health is offering Senior Fitness Training, a four-week, 10-session fitness program designed to help active seniors maintain a healthy lifestyle by improving strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance.

Training sessions are one-on-one, with a certified senior fitness instructor. Prior to training, participants receive a fitness evaluation. Results are used to create a customized exercise plan tailored to individual needs.

The cost is $120, which is due at the time of the pre-test. Paperwork filled out by a physician ire required.

Flag Day

June 14 is a holiday that celebrates the adoption of the United States flag.  Its design is credited to Francis Hopkinson with Betsy Ross (great niece to George Washington) for the five-pointed star.  According to lore, it was also her suggestion to place the stars in a circle.  Mr. Hopkins’ original design had six-pointed stars and the original Flag Act of 1777 was quite vague and many interpretations were flown. Read more.
