Wood LibraryWhere Tradition, Technology and Community Meet NEWS:Proposition for Wood Library Funding on May 21 Canandaigua City School District BallotWhat is Proposition #3? A proposition for Wood Library funding will appear on the same ballot as the Canandaigua City School District budget on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. It asks voters to authorize the School District to levy and collect an annual tax for Wood Library in the amount of $1,007,564 starting with the 2024-2025 tax bill. If approved, the library property tax rate will be 30 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property valuation. On a property assessed at $150,000, the total increase on your tax bill would be $4.50. The proposed increase will impact your October 2024 property tax bill. How is the library levy used? Community-based funding provides a stable source of revenue for the library’s essential services and programs. It allows the library to continue offering reliable service, meet the increasing demand for digital content, offer innovative programming, and provide fresh materials year after year. Only 72 percent of the library’s operating budget is funded by a library tax assessed on properties within the Canandaigua City School District. Fundraising, income from the endowment, grants, and some service fees make up the difference. How do I vote? The vote will take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Any registered voter residing in the Canandaigua City School District may cast a ballot. There are two polling locations depending on where you live: Canandaigua Elementary School Link Gym, 90 W Gibson St, Canandaigua; OR at the Cheshire Fire Hall, Rte 21 South, Cheshire. The polls are open from 7:00 AM-9:00 PM. Voters may request an absentee ballot. The application can be found at Wood Library or the School District office, or click here. The application must be received by the District Clerk on or before May 13 if you need the ballot mailed to you; or by May 20 if you or another person will pick it up from the District Clerk. Completed ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on May 21.Learn More. ARTICLE
pennlive.com Among the Fingers Lakes gems to hit when visiting central New York State is Shaw Vineyard, located along Seneca Lake in Himrod, a hamlet in Yates County. The story starts with Steve Shaw, who grew up in the Hammondsport area and was influenced by several of the East Coast wine industry pioneers such as Dr. Konstantin Frank, Charles Fournier, Guy DeVeaux, and Herman Wiemer. “They were all friends of mine and they showed me much to emulate as well as some excellent advice,” he tells PennLive in an email. “So I knew early on what I wanted to do and attempt to accomplish in the vineyard and winery.”

Featured Wine: 2022 Marechal Foch
Any time of year is a perfect time to enjoy the 2022 Marechal Foch (Foch for short)! This versatile dry red wine is fruit forward and naturally lower in tannins than many red wines resulting in a smooth, clean finish. In addition to pairing well with dishes that are traditionally paired with red wines (hearty beef dishes, red sauces, cheese, chocolate), due to its fruit-forward nature and unique, light finish, Marechal Foch also pairs well with a variety of dishes that are not traditionally served with red wines. Try serving Marechal Foch with grilled salmon, barbecued chicken, sautéed mushrooms or mixed greens.

Wines available in the tasting room or our online wineshop.
