Rose Walk Returns June 11

For the first time since 2019, UR Medicine Thompson Health will host its annual Rose Walk on Saturday, June 11, at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park, 151 Charlotte St. in Canandaigua. The event will be held rain or shine, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

Rose Walk participants can choose from a 1- or 2-mile route through the gardens and surrounding historic neighborhood. A group walk will set off at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. ceremony. The event will also include kid-friendly activities, refreshments, local vendors and health screenings.

With Finger Lakes Cardiology Associates as the presenting sponsor and support from the Thompson Hospital Pulmonary Clinic, the event benefits patients of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Programs at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.

There is a participation fee of $35, which includes admission to Sonnenberg, a commemorative T-shirt and refreshments. Collecting donations to raise additional funding is encouraged.

June 17 Naples Tournament to Benefit Cancer Patients

The 15

 Margery Coughlin Pawluk Invitational Golf Tournament is set for Friday, June 17, at Reservoir Creek Golf Course in Naples. With a four-person scramble format, the tournament starts with registration, brunch and driving range at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start. At 4 p.m., there will be dinner with a cash bar, an awards presentation and live entertainment.

The cost is $135 per golfer and includes golf, a cart, brunch, a prime rib and shrimp dinner, awards and tee gifts. A “dinner only” registration is $45 per person. All proceeds benefit the Margery Coughlin Pawluk Cancer Patient Needs Fund, which helps patients of the Wilmot Cancer Institute’s Sands Cancer Center – on the UR Medicine Thompson Health campus in Canandaigua – with the unexpected costs of a long illness.

Since its inception, the Pawluk tournament has raised a total of more than $165,000 for the fund, created in memory of a Naples resident who was a nurse at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua as well as a mother of three. Organizers were forced to cancel the tournament in 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic, so this year’s is the first since 2019.

The Mitchell-Joseph Insurance Agency is sponsoring a $10,000 hole-in-one contest during the tournament.

Bike Share station installed at Wood Library!

The City of Canandaigua has installed a bike share station at Wood Library in partnership with HOPR and funded by a grant from the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RTS). Other bike share locations are: Patty's Place and Frequentem Brewing in Downtown Canandaigua, Young Lion on Lakeshore Dr, the Kershaw Beach Bathhouse, and FLCC campus.

Glenora Wine Cellars, the first winery on Seneca Lake, is up for sale after over 40 years under the same ownership.

Today the region is home to over 100 wineries, but Glenora Wine Cellars holds the special honor of being the first winery built on the shores of Seneca Lake back in 1977 by owner Gene Pierce and partners.

Now the Glenora winery, vineyard, restaurant and hotel are up for sale. Pierce and his partner Scott Welliver listed the 64-acre property on Route 14 for $10.8 million. Read More
