Where Remembrance Began: Unpacking Waterloo’s Claim as the Birthplace of Memorial Day
On a muggy May afternoon years ago, my curiosity led me to a small-town parade—nothing flashy, just vintage uniforms, civic bands, and hand-painted banners. That encounter made me wonder: How did a quiet village in upstate New York become the cradle of America’s most solemn holiday? Join this journey as we uncover the tangled, heartfelt, and occasionally overlooked beginnings of Memorial Day in Waterloo, NY. Read more
