Five Chosen for Thompson Health’s Service Excellence Awards
UR Medicine Thompson Health recently named five of its associates as fourth-quarter 2022 Service Excellence Award winners.
Chosen for the honor by the health system’s Service Excellence Team (SET) were:
Melissa Dobbertin of Palmyra, Radiology Technologist, Diagnostic Imaging.
Cassandra Gleason of Farmington, Family Nurse Practitioner, OB/GYN.
Dr. Ali Hamdan of Pittsford, Medical Director, Hospital Medicine.
David Segal of Rochester, Data Specialist, Clinical Quality.
Chuck Yacos of Canandaigua, Radiology Technologist, Diagnostic Imaging.
The Service Excellence Award acknowledges Thompson associates who consistently deliver exceptional service. The SET selects award recipients quarterly, after reviewing system leaders’ submissions of compliments from patients, families, and coworkers. Each recipient of the Service Excellence Award is given points to be used on Thompson’s online shopping site and is featured in CEO presentations as well as on Thompson’s intranet site and in its internal newsletter.
Thompson Names Watkins as Nutrition Services Director
UR Medicine Thompson Health recently named Rhashard Watkins of West Henrietta its director of Nutrition Services.
For the past four years, Watkins has served as director of Food Service Operations for Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport, a 120-bed nursing home. He previously was in leadership roles within Nutritional Service at the Hurlbut Nursing Home in Rochester. Since 2016, Watkins has also served as chief operating officer of the Rochester-based Kron Insurance Services, Inc.
Watkins will oversee a nearly 80-person department providing meals to patients of F.F. Thompson Hospital and residents of the adjacent M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center. The department also serves staff members and visitors in the cafeteria in addition to providing catering services for Thompson events.
Watkins received an Associate in Applied Science in Computer Information Systems at SUNY Alfred, where he later obtained a Bachelor of Technology. He received his Executive Master of Business Administration from the E. Phillip Saunders School of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2019. He is treasurer of the Rochester Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as well as a board member for the nonprofit Baden Street Settlement in Rochester.

Local Wineries ask Hochul to Shut Down Greenidge Generation

DRESDEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- With Governor Kathy Hochul recently locking up another four years in office, local wineries and environmental groups held a press conference Thursday morning to urge her to sign a cryptocurrency mining moratorium bill. Along with requesting Hochul sign the moratorium, which would prevent future crypto-mining operations from opening, they also asked her to take concrete steps to shut down the already operational crypto-mining operation at Greenidge Generation in Dresden. Veteran's Day
In conjunction with the end of The Great War, now called World War I, on November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson expressed his feelings toward those who had fought in the war. It was not until 1926 that the Congress requested that President Calvin Coolidge make November 11 a legal, federal holiday called Armistice Day. Read More.

Cranberries in Baked Goods
We often only consider cranberries as a side dish at Thanksgiving. However, it is perfectly fine to add them to some of your baked goods all through the year. The tartness offsets the sweet or rich desserts. A good tip is to toss the cranberries in flour before adding them to the mix. That will help prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the finished product. You can substitute sweetened, dried berries but reduce the amount by a quarter. So, if the recipe calls for a cup of fresh (or thawed frozen) cranberries, use ¾ cup of dried. Read More.
