Thompson’s ‘Wellness Toolbox’ Series Starts November 7
“Wellness Toolbox,” a four-week series of free classes geared toward older adults, begins November 7. Presented by UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Wellness Department in partnership with the Ontario County Office for the Aging, the series features tools and strategies to promote healthy connections, stress reduction, and mindfulness, with helpful tip sheets provided.The classes will meet each Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Ontario County Safety Training Center, 2914 County Road 48 in Canandaigua. The schedule is as follows:
November 7: Stress Management Overview and Sleep
November 14: Meditation and Brightening Your Outlook
November 21: Strengthening Social Connections
November 28: Gentle Chair Yoga and Positive Self Talk

Free ‘Wellness for Women’ Event November 9
UR Medicine Thompson Health and Wood Library are partnering to offer a free event for women on Wednesday, November 9, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Called “Wellness for Women: An Evening of Education, Empowerment, and Connection,” the event is for women of all ages and will be held in the Hamlin Room at the library, 134 North Main Street in Canandaigua.Thompson Health experts will give brief presentations:
Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jillian Babu, MD, on cervical cancer screenings
Stroke/STEMI/Sepsis Coordinator Thomas W. Bonfiglio, BS, RN, EMT-P, CEN, TCRN, on stroke in women
Wellness Coordinator Jennifer Muscato, ACSM CPT, leading a mindfulness activity for stress relief

“Quality all starts with the grapes,” says Peter Weis, co-owner of Weis Vineyards in Keuka Lake. In 2017, Weis and his wife Ashlee bought a small existing winery in Hammondsport. In the span of five years, they have turned quality grapes from the Finger Lakes into quality wine from Weis Vineyards. They’ve quickly become a celebrated winery in the region, earning the “Winery of the Year” award in the 2022 New York Wine Classic.
“Winery of the Year” goes to the winery with the best overall showing based on the level and number of awards in relation to entries. This year, Weiss entered nine wines. Judges awarded their 2021 Dry Rosé a platinum medal and named it Best Pink Wine, Best Rosé in its class. Their 2020 Winzer Select A, Riesling earned a gold medal and judges named it Best White Wine and Best Overall Riesling. Of the remaining seven wines, six earned gold medals and the final wine earned a silver medal. Not a bad showing for a five-year-old winery. Read More

Samhainn and Day of the Dead
It is interesting to note when two cultures separated by an ocean and almost two continents each celebrate their respect for those who have passed away in extremely similar fashion. In this case we are talking about the Celts in western Europe and Mexicans in North America. In fact, both cultures observed celebrations within days of each other earlier this week. Read More.
