Thompson Presents BEE Award to Patient Care Technician

Patient Care Technician Ella Hughes recently received UR Medicine Thompson Health’s BEE Award.

A resident of Avon, Hughes joined Thompson in September 2024 and works on the 3 East unit at F.F. Thompson Hospital.

She was working the night Dave Lamberson of Canandaigua was admitted to the hospital in August of this year and cared for him during two additional shifts, including the morning he passed away. His wife, Nancy, nominated Hughes for the award and wrote, “She always exhibited a positive attitude toward Dave even when doing the most mundane work! She spent extra time in making him the most comfortable he could be and would often make a visit to see how he was doing even when not assigned to him.”

Nancy Lamberson, who attended the surprise award presentation and read the nomination aloud, added that the family knows that Hughes is a nursing student. “With her compassionate nature and caring skills, she will be an excellent nurse!” she said.

The BEE Award, which stands for Being Exceptional Every day, was developed by Thompson associates to honor non-licensed team members like Hughes. It complements Thompson’s quarterly DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence. BEE Awards are also presented quarterly. Patients, family members of patients, and colleagues are invited to submit nominations at www.ThompsonHealth.com/BEE. All nominees receive recognition and a BEE pin.
