Thompson Hosting Aug. 25 Job Fair

UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a job fair on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Constellation Center for Health and Healing, located on the northern side of F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua. Hiring managers will be conducting on-site interviews at the job fair, which runs from 2 to 5 p.m. and will also feature information about benefits. Open positions include jobs in clinical, administrative and general support areas.

Designated for three consecutive years by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as a “LGBTQ Health Care Equality Leader,” Thompson Health is also a five-time recipient of Wealth of Health Awards from the

Kwaw Amos, an investment banker with Barclays, has been in the banking industry for more than a decade, but he’s also the founder and owner of New York’s first operating and producing Black-owned winery.

Amos is the owner of Gotham Winery, a business founded in New York City that sports a variety of wines, including rosé, rieslings, pinot noir, and merlots. Amos, who spent his youth primarily in West Haven, Connecticut, found his love of wine years before it was legal for him to drink it.

Financial Steps After the Loss of a Loved One

Dealing with the loss of a loved one, a family member, or long-time friend or partner, can be overwhelming to the point that you don’t know what to do next. You are coping with the elements of grief and still need to carry on as if nothing has changed. On top of it all, you know you will need to deal with financial matters but it is hard to know where to start. Here are a list of common steps you can take to help with the financials.

National Left Handers Day

On August 13 we celebrate National Left Handers Day. From the earliest recorded time lefties have made up about 9% of the total population world wide. In the past half century it has crept up to between 10% and 11%.

Salads with Fruit and Chicken

Leftovers are not the enemy. You just need to re-purpose, especially proteins so that you don’t feel you are eating the same thing nightly. Chicken is one of the more versatile whether they come from the grocery store rotisserie or yesterday’s grill. Combine this with a bag of pre-washed salad mix and fruit, and you have a light and easy dinner entree. Chicken blends well with a number of different flavor profiles so it makes it a staple in most kitchens. High in protein, low in calories, and low in both fat and cholesterol, it still packs a wallop with iron, zinc and Vitamin B.
