Two

Chosen for Thompson’s Service Excellence Awards

UR Medicine Thompson Health recently named two of its associates as second-quarter 2023 Service Excellence Award winners.

Chosen for the honor by the health system’s Service Excellence Team (SET) were:

  • Dr. Brian Greenberg of Victor, from the Emergency Department

  • Dr. Ashley Leubner of Conesus, from Canandaigua Family Practice

The Service Excellence Award acknowledges Thompson associates who consistently deliver exceptional service. The SET selects award recipients quarterly, after reviewing system leaders’ submissions of compliments from patients, families, and coworkers.

Each recipient of the Service Excellence Award is given points to be used on Thompson’s online shopping site and is featured in CEO presentations as well as on Thompson’s intranet site and in its internal newsletter.

Written by Kathleen Willcox and Robin Shreeves for newyorkwines.orgSomething surprising happened at the 2023 New York Wine Classic competition. The top white wine was a 2022 Gewurztraminer, not a grape that the state is particularly known for unless you’re really into New York wine. And, it was a medium-dry Gewurztraminer, adding to the surprise.  Read more.

FPIES

Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) is a food allergy that affects young children. It can occur any time around or after four months, which is about the time an infant will start on solids like rice and oats. Generally it will disappear when the child reaches about age three or four. Read more.

Pears

It is a great family outing to visit an orchard and pick your own fruit. If pears are what you are after, this is a good time. Pears left to ripen on the trees can become gritty tasting. Harvest when they are mature but prior to peak ripeness, give them time to chill and you will have the wonderful sweetness associated with pears. Refrigerate the fruit at between 31 and 50 degrees for a couple of days or up to several weeks. Then remove them from the cold area and allow them to finish ripening in 60 to 65 degrees for another couple of weeks. Too warm and the fruit will go bad. Read More.
