Designate a Light at Thompson in Honor or in Memory of a Loved One

Beginning Monday, December 6, the guild’s Tree of Lights will once again be featured prominently in front of UR Medicine Thompson Health’s skilled-nursing facility, the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center on Parrish Street in Canandaigua.

Each year, community members may sponsor lights on the tree, in memory of or in honor of loved ones. Proceeds benefit the programs and initiatives funded by the guild, which is Thompson’s auxiliary and which had to cancel many of its fundraising events this year.

Lights are a minimum donation of $5 each. Written acknowledgments are sent to those honored or to the families of those memorialized.

How climate change is impacting the wine industry

Climate change directly affects many aspects of our lives—including what some of us may drink on a Saturday night.

Stacker curated a list of how climate change affects the wine industry and how wineries are working to combat climate change. To round out our reporting, we also sought the perspective of experts in viticulture and the wine industry. We spoke, for example, to the authors of a 2019 study on climate change and viticulture, Associate Professor of Geography at the University of South Alabama Steven Schultze and Associate Professor of the Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University Paolo Sabbatini. Additionally, we sought the perspective of a small-business winery directly affected by climate change, Silver Thread Vineyards. Shannon Brock is the co-owner and estate manager of Silver Thread, located on Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.
