Emergency Department Nurse Wins Thompson’s DAISY Award
Registered nurse Aimee Nesbitt of the Emergency Department is the latest recipient of The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses from UR Medicine Thompson Health.

Nesbitt, a Branchport resident, was surprised with her award at work on December 8. She was nominated by a woman following her father’s visit to the Emergency Department.
“The care, attention, and empathy from Aimee Nesbitt was outstanding! The teamwork and her leadership with PCTs (patient care technicians) was also excellent!” the nomination read, adding that Nesbitt was “spot on” with a great attitude and “treated my father and other patients with great respect and care.”
Nesbitt received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called
A Healer’s Touch
. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation. She is the second recipient of Thompson’s quarterly DAISY award, which is part of a nationwide nurse recognition program.

Thompson to Host Information Session on Becoming a CNA
UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting an information session at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10 for those interested in beginning careers as certified nursing assistants (CNAs).
Thompson covers the entire cost of the five-week CNA training course and pays participants while enrolled, with part-time benefits beginning immediately. Course graduates are guaranteed a CNA position at Thompson’s M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center.
Newly hired CNAs are expected to remain employed – in a full- or part-time position – for at least one year from certification. If they plan to further their education, they are eligible for tuition reimbursement initiatives and grants from Thompson, as well as promotional opportunities.
The one-hour information session will be held at Finger Lakes Community College, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive in Canandaigua. Those planning on attending must RSVP at
no later than Sunday, January 8.
