Thompson Health Guild to Host Aug. 14 Fashion Show

The Thompson Health Guild, UR Medicine Thompson Health’s auxiliary, is hosting a Sunday brunch and fashion show to raise money for its education and scholarship funds.

Set for Sunday, Aug. 14, the fashion show will take place in the café at Finger Lakes Community College from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In addition to a brunch buffet and bottomless mimosa bar, it will include “mini shows” and boutique shopping. Featured fashions will be from the Blue Door Boutique, Carmela's Bridal & Prom, Chico’s, Dick Anthony Ltd., the Guild Gallery Gift Shop and Wanda’s Wearables.

With open seating, tickets are $50 per guest. VIP tables seating eight, with preferred seating and goodie bags for each person at the table, are available for $500.

Proceeds benefit the Education Fund and the Scholarship Fund managed by the guild. The former helps Thompson staff members attain education and certifications to bolstertheir careers and enhance patient care. The latter enables the guild to contribute funds to qualified staff members' tuition bills and to award up to five $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors in Thompson’s service area each year.

Physician Joins Canandaigua Family Practice

UR Medicine Thompson Health recently welcomed Dr. Kate Skipton to Canandaigua Family Practice, an affiliate of F.F. Thompson Hospital.

A graduate of the University of Rochester, Skipton received her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and did her residency in Williamsport, Pa. For the past six years, she has been an outpatient physician with the Samaritan Family Health Network in Watertown, NY, where she previously worked in both inpatient adult medicine and inpatient pediatric medicine as well as in the newborn nursery. She and her family recently moved to Farmington.

Skipton is board certified in family medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the New York Academy of Family Physicians and the Medical Society of the State of New York. She is accepting new patients of all ages at Canandaigua Family Practice, which is located across from the hospital in Suite 275 at 3170 West St.

Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua & Bristol Mountain to hold Free Bike Rodeo Event

CANANDAIGUA, NY – The Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua, in partnership with Bristol Mountain, will hold its first-ever Bike Rodeo on Sunday, August 28 from 1 to 4 pm at Bristol Mountain, 5662 Route 64 in Canandaigua.

The free event is designed for children who are entering pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and will feature equipment safety checks, basic bicycle safety skills, music and bike decorating. All event participants will be entered to win a bike. A parade will take place at the end of the event where children will compete for the coveted prize of best bike decorations. Food and drink will be available for purchase. There is no charge to participate in the Bike Rodeo.

There will be no formal bike riding training – participants are expected to be able to maneuver their bikes on their own.

“It’s exciting to be able to bring a Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua event that celebrates outdoor fun and safety to the community,” said Bristol Mountain Marketing & Group Sales Manager and event Co-chair Meg Fuller. “Kiwanis supports the children of our community – we can’t wait to see the kids improving their skills and having fun with friends!”

Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua meets weekly in-person and virtually, and all are welcome. The Kiwanis motto — “Serving the Children of the World” — is carried out by helping the community in a variety of ways, including supporting the Inclusion in Motion Playground, Annual Easter Egg Hunt, movie nights, Senior Bingo, Salvation Army Christmas Party, Halloween events and Bike Rodeo. The group also sponsors youth groups at the elementary, middle and high schools; highway clean-ups; raises money to help children and children’s support groups and provides scholarships to local students.

During a live virtual event hosted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation this week, Gov. Kathy Hochul presented the Governor’s Cup, the top award, to Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards’ Solera Sherry and Wölffer Estate’s 2020 Diosa Late-Harvest. They also shared the Best Dessert Wine title.
