Guild to Hold Chicken Barbecue July 9 at Runnings

The Thompson Health Guild will host its second annual chicken barbecue in the parking lot of Runnings, at the corner of Routes 5 & 20 and County Road 10, on Saturday, July 9.

Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until sold out, the event will feature meals prepared by Ace Automatics of Seneca Falls. The cost is $12 per meal.

The Thompson Health Guild is the auxiliary of UR Medicine Thompson Health, fundraising for the nonprofit organization in order to support capital campaigns, purchase medical equipment and offer programs for hospital patients, nursing home residents, staff members and community members. Career Exploration Day at Thompson July 27

UR Medicine Thompson Health is hosting a Career Exploration Day this summer for students entering 9

 through 12

 grades.

Set for Wednesday, July 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the day is designed to be fun while giving students an opportunity to learn about healthcare careers by shadowing in various hospital departments and having presentations from health professionals in the community.

The fee is $10 per student and includes lunch. Space is limited, so it’s first come, first served, with a registration deadline of July 13. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.

The Results Are In! Who will receive the 2022 Governor's Cup?

  Organized annually by NYWGF, the New York Wine Classic celebrates a diverse selection of world-class wines from producers statewide. For the second year, NYWGF has partnered with the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) to judge wines submitted from across New York state. Scores were awarded by BTI’s trained sensory panel comprised of beverage directors, sommeliers, top bartenders, retail buyers and educators. 

A live awards ceremony announcing the winners of the 36th New York Wine Classic competition will be held on July 12th at 6:00pm/EST. This online event will reveal and celebrate the "Best in Category" winners, as well as the prestigious Governor’s Cup (Best Wine) and Winery of the Year (Best Overall Showing by a Winery) Winners. View live acceptance of awards, by winning winery representatives, in 5 categories: Best Red Wine, Best White Wine, Best Pink Wine, Best Sparkling Wine, and Best Dessert Wine.  The event will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Karen MacNeil, author of the award-winning book, THE WINE BIBLE and creator/editor-in-chief of WineSpeed, the leading digital wine newsletter in the U.S.  “For over 35 years, the New York Wine Classic competition has celebrated the best of the best in our industry,” notes Sam Filler, Executive Director of NYWGF. “We urge you to tune in as Karen MacNeil honors the winners and shares stories about what makes New York wines so exquisite and exciting. Summer Breakfasts

Those hearty bowls of oatmeal that you would have on winter mornings, just won’t work with the heat of summer.

Smoothies are one of the best choices for a quick, nutritious breakfast. Fill the blender with Greek yogurt, a frozen banana, and whatever fresh berries you have on hand. Very uncomplicated and very tasty. Another fun option is adding granola to any combination of fruits for a morning “salad”. If you need something a little more substantive, open a pack of blueberry muffin mix, add one egg and ¾ cup of milk and cook up some pancakes. Read More.
