Stroke Support Group Meets Via Zoom on July 7The regional Stroke Support Group hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health will meet on Thursday, July 7. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m., via Zoom, and will feature a speaker from the University of Rochester Medical Center.Board-certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse as well as board-certified in ambulatory care, Abby Mathewson will discuss mental health following a stroke, for both the patient and the family.Thompson’s monthly support group is open to stroke survivors as well as their loved ones and caregivers. Guild to Hold Chicken Barbecue July 9 at RunningsThe Thompson Health Guild will host its second annual chicken barbecue in the parking lot of Runnings, at the corner of Routes 5 & 20 and County Road 10, on Saturday, July 9.Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until sold out, the event will feature meals prepared by Ace Automatics of Seneca Falls. The cost is $12 per meal. Presale tickets are available from members of the guild’s board of directors, and online pre-orders can be placed through July 5 at www.ThompsonHealth.com/BBQ.The Thompson Health Guild is the auxiliary of UR Medicine Thompson Health, fundraising for the nonprofit organization in order to support capital campaigns, purchase medical equipment and offer programs for hospital patients, nursing home residents, staff members and community members. The Chardonnay grapes on the west side of Seneca Lake, one of New York State’s Finger Lakes, are usually among the first grapes picked in the AVA. This means they are “clean and ripe every single year”, according to winemaker Nathan Kendall. With some of the Chardonnay grapes he “doubles down” and picks them even earlier for sparkling wines – blending them with 26% Pinot Noir and 2% Pinot Blanc. Sometimes he picks them two to three weeks later for what he calls an “Old World-style” Chardonnay. Read more.
