Thompson Urging Community to Get Involved with Nursing Home Advocacy
Thompson Health is joining with health systems across the state in urging lawmakers to comprehensively reform and rationalize New York’s nursing home Medicaid methodology in the Final 2024-25 Budget. Thompson is also encouraging members of the community to learn more about the issue and become involved.
Despite sharply rising costs, New York’s nursing home Medicaid rates have not been adjusted for inflation since 2007. As a result, according to a federal panel of experts, our nursing home reimbursement is among the worst in the country. On average, New York State’s nursing home Medicaid rates cover only 75% of the cost of care for each Medicaid resident served.
In the face of an $810 million (State share) Medicaid funding gap for the nursing home care provided in New York,
the Governor’s Budget proposes a 10% capital cut to nursing home Medicaid rates, eliminates crucial Vital Access Provider Assurance Program (VAPAP) funds, and demands up to $400 million in additional, unspecified cuts to the long-term care sector.
LeadingAge New York – an organization representing not-for-profit, mission-driven, and public continuing care providers – has created a quick and convenient way to make your voice heard with a message to the governor, lieutenant governor, and other state lawmakers. Please take a moment to show your support for older adults in our community by filling out a brief form via this link -

Women's History Month
March is Women’s History Month. In March 1978, educators in Santa Rosa, California, first celebrated Women’s History Week, coinciding with Intentional Women’s Day on March 8. In the succeeding years, other states joined in the observance. In 1980 President Jimmy Carter officially declared Women’s History Week and in 1987 Congress passed a resolution declaring March as Women’s History Month. By 1986, 14 states had declared March as Women’s History Month and the following year Congress made the declaration national in perpetuity. International Women’s Day is still celebrated on March 8 as a separate but coordinated event. Read More.

Celebrating Women's History Month in the Finger Lakes
We all know that there are ongoing events in the Finger Lakes area and Women’s History Month celebrates “locals” like Iroquois women, Harriet Tubman, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and their contributions. Advertize our local events by tagging @BraveWomenFLX so that everyone can see how we celebrate in our own region. Read more.

Rice Noodles
Instead of using wheat flour, you can make noodles from rice flour, water with possibly tapioca or cornstarch. This is a gluten free product especially favored by people who suffer with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity or allergy. They are low in sodium so adjust the seasoning accordingly, bearing in mind any other medical conditions that you or your guests may have. They are lower in fiber than other noodles or spaghetti squash. Read More.
