Nurse Practitioner Joins Thompson’s Advanced Surgical Services

Nurse Practitioner Christine Lyon has joined UR Medicine Thompson Health’s Advanced Surgical Services team.

Christine Lyon

A Farmington resident, Lyon has been employed by F.F. Thompson Hospital for 19 years, most recently as a registered nurse in its Utilization Management Department and previously as a nurse leader on its 2 West medical/surgical floor.

Lyon is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and specializes in wound care, inpatient rounding, pre- and post-operative care, and in-office procedures. She received her master’s degree in nursing as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Practitioner from Keuka College in 2022. Her bachelor’s in nursing is from Roberts Wesleyan College and her associate’s in nursing is from the Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing.

Located at 395 West Street in Canandaigua, Advanced Surgical Services is part of F.F. Thompson Hospital. Its team also includes four surgeons and a second nurse practitioner. For more information, visit

Scholarships Available from Thompson Health Guild

Do you have a high school senior who will be pursuing a career in health care?

The Thompson Health Guild is awarding five scholarships – each for $2,000 – to members of the Class of 2023 who attend schools within Thompson’s service area. Online scholarship application forms must be submitted by both the student and the guidance counselor

Mental Health Benefits of Chatting with Friends

Even in these last days of winter, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can take its toll.  There are a number of remedies like a healthy diet, exercise, soaking up any sun that is around, and using lightbulbs that mimic the sun (those with a rating of 2700 to 3000 degrees Kelvin).  Don’t overlook the simple act of chatting with friends.  Not necessarily dumping woes on one another, but just a simple talk about ordinary things. Read More.

Interior Spring Home Maintenance

Spring may actually be on the way.  There are more hours of daylight and the temperatures can actually be tolerable on occasion.  While you may be thinking about that home maintenance checklist, it is probably still too early for many of the tasks.  However, when considering the interior of your home, this is a good time to start. Read more.

March Madness Menu

National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) began a tournament in 1939 with eight teams competing.  By 1951 there were 16 and today we have around 60 teams participating.  The madness comes from multiple games being played simultaneously all across the country.  The group known as Cinderella are the outliers that no one expected to make it as far as they do, which serves to generate even more excitement.  It is estimated that around 100 million Americans will be watching. Read More.
