  INDUSTRY

In exploring the impact of the pandemic on the Finger Lakes wine region in the spring of 2020, I reached out to some colleagues in the wine industry. Life was so uncertain at the time. Was this a short-lived situation? Would it be over by summer, when many wineries count on visitors to support them? We actually had no idea of what would happen tomorrow, let alone next week or next month.

Featured wine from Miles Wine Cellars

Oaked Chardonnay is a lightly oaked Chardonnay that is smooth with flavors of apple and vanilla with a finish of buttered toast.

This week's photo is a before and after pruning shot from

. The top is pre-pruning and the bottom is post-pruning, leaving 2 trunks and 4 canes. This particular block is Cabernet Franc, planted in the mid 90’s.

"We prune the vines to regulate the size of the crop so that the appropriate amount of grapes will become ripe. Also, we prune to promote airflow and sun exposure that in turn helps manage natural disease suppression. And, like we always say; great wine begins in the vineyard!"

Fresh Photo Tips for Spring

In fall, photography is marked by crunching leaves under warm boots and splashes of colorful foliage. In winter, snow-lined trees and rooftops make for a pretty picture, and the summer months make family photos a breeze, as beach vacations and backyard play are all around. But what about Spring? The season of flowers can also make for some splendid photo-ops, if you know what to capture and when.

Spring Showers Stone Mat

As they say, April showers bring May flowers. And as beautiful as those flowers can be, the showers can wreak havoc on your home’s floors. A rain-catching stone mat is the perfect solution to keep your floors dry this season, and can add a fun decorative touch to your entryway or laundry room.

Horseradish-and-Herb-Crusted Lamb Roast

The classic spring roast lamb gets a mini makeover with a herbaceous horseradish crust, and a simple red wine pan dripping sauce is the perfect complement.
