Brewer Named Thompson’s Associate of the Year

Christy Brewer of the Case Management/Social Work Department at Thompson Health’s M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center was named the health system’s Associate of the Year Wednesday during Thompson’s annual Shining Stars Awards Ceremony.

Brewer, a Geneva resident, first came to work at the skilled-nursing facility in December of 2020, covering a maternity leave. She returned for another maternity leave in March of 2021, later transitioning to full-time when there was an opening.

“You never would have known Christy started as a ‘temporary’ associate,” said Thompson Health President/CEO Michael F. Stapleton, Jr. “Right from the beginning, she took the time to learn The Thompson Way, got to know each of the residents and their families, and built relationships with the interdisciplinary team as well.”

Stapleton said one colleague described Brewer as one of the most dedicated associates at the facility, and another said she is also one of the most reliable. He said this particular nomination continued, “She is hard-working, dependable, responsible, and professional. Equally, she is compassionate, kind, genuine, and honest. She makes a difference in so many lives.”

“Always attentive to others’ needs, Christy is the type of person who takes initiative,” Stapleton said. “A person of integrity, she is there for her team and helps alleviate their stress during their most challenging times.”

Close to 40 other Thompson associates received Shining Star Awards at the ceremony.

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard has consistently evolved since it was founded in 1979.

“We are always pushing ourselves to move forward,” says Oskar Bynke, co-owner of Hermann J. Wiemer. This unflagging effort was recognized this year by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation with the Winery of the Year Award for contributions to the advancement of the image and reputation of the New York wine industry.

“It felt like a true honor because it came from our peers,” Bynke says. “We have always challenged ourselves to elevate our wine-growing and making, and it’s incredible to have that hard work recognized.”

Snoring Help

When air passes through relaxed tissues in the throat, usually while sleeping, a rumbling or snorting sound comes out. We call that snoring. Everyone will snore once in a while but some people snore excessively. This can become more than an annoyance for bunk mates or even other people in the household. Loud snoring will awaken others leaving them sleep deprived and grumpy. Read more.

Coconut

Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm, native to southeast Asia and islands in the Indian and Pacific oceans. They are considered widespread and are popular for flavor and health benefits. The raw, white meat is called the kernel. It can be eaten by scraping it from the shell but it is widely sold sliced, shaved, or grated. The milk is pressed from the raw meat. Dried coconut can also be milled into flour. Coconut oil is also pressed from the meat and is a good substitute for other vegetable oils. Read More.
