Rose Walk Returns June 11

For the first time since 2019, UR Medicine Thompson Health will host its annual Rose Walk on Saturday, June 11, at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park, 151 Charlotte St. in Canandaigua. The event will be held rain or shine, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.

Rose Walk participants can choose from a 1- or 2-mile route through the gardens and surrounding historic neighborhood. A group walk will set off at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. ceremony. The event will also include kid-friendly activities, refreshments, local vendors and health screenings.

With Finger Lakes Cardiology Associates as the presenting sponsor and support from the Thompson Hospital Pulmonary Clinic, the event benefits patients of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Programs at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.

There is a participation fee of $35, which includes admission to Sonnenberg, a commemorative T-shirt and refreshments. Collecting donations to raise additional funding is encouraged.

Thompson Board Welcomes Three New Members

The UR Medicine Thompson Health Board of Directors welcomed three new members at its annual meeting, on April 29 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.

Joining the board are Dr. Akua Asante, a pediatrician who joined Thompson in 2019; Krista Jackson, an account executive with Novo Nordisk A/S and the new chair of the board for the F.F. Thompson Foundation; and Dr. Justin M. Weis, Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care for Thompson as well as the F.F. Thompson Hospital Medical Staff President. The board thanked its two outgoing members, Canandaigua National Bank & Trust President/CEO Frank Hamlin III and Deborah Price, a retired Constellation Brands vice president.

Also during the annual meeting, board members and Thompson leadership recognized five physicians who retired in 2021: Drs. M. James Doling, Margaret Hollister, William Kingston, David Ragonesi and Thomas Wormer. Among the five, there was a total of 173 years of service to the community.

Featured Event: British Car Show

The Ontario County Historical Society (OCHS) is hosting a classic British Car Show at Onanda Park, West Lake Road, in Canandaigua, NY. Classic car owners and spectators alike will be able to enjoy the perfect combination of cars, food, and history alongside Canandaigua Lake. The spring weather with the amazing view of classic British cars (pre 1997 production) along Canandaigua Lake make this an event to get out of the house for! A variety of food will be available.

Car owners can enter their car by registering at the link below for $20. All registered cars will be eligible to win people’s choice awards in multiple categories: Pre-1980, 1980 – 1997, Overall, and a special MGB category for the 60th anniversary.

Admission for the public is free and all spectators receive a ballot to vote for their favorite cars.

Registered car owners should arrive between 8:30-10 A.M. The show is open to the public from 10 A.M. – 2 P.M.

Fox Run Vineyards announced Friday that Peter Bell, its head winemaker, will be retiring effective Sept. 1, 2022.

Bell began his career in the Finger Lakes as the winemaker for Dr. Konstantin Frank Cellars in 1990. He joined Fox Run on the west side of Seneca Lake five years later as its head winemaker. There, he found a kindred spirit in Fox Run co-owner, Scott Osborn. It’s a special relationship that would last over 27 years.

Peonies

Spring brings with it flowering shrubs: forsythia, lilacs, spirea (bridal veil), and the late spring blooming peony. They come in colors from white through the pinks and reds. They only grow to about three feet tall and will spread about the same or a bit more. Tree peonies will usually grow to about 5 feet. Read More.

Egg and Soba Noodles

While noodles and pasta are used synonymously, they are not quite the same. Pasta is made from durum wheat and water and formed into different shapes. Note that our definition is changing with a greater understanding of food allergies and intolerances as well as preferences of grain.
