Stroke Support Group Meets Via Zoom on June 2
The regional Stroke Support Group hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health will meet on Thursday, June 2. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m., via Zoom, and will feature peer interactions and discussion.
Thompson’s monthly support group is open to stroke survivors as well as their loved ones and caregivers. To sign up for the June 2 meeting, email

F.F. Thompson Hospital is a New York State Department of Health-designated Stroke Center and recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines
Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally accepted, research-based guidelines.
Thompson to Host June 14 Job Fair
UR Medicine Thompson Health will host a job fair at F.F. Thompson Hospital, 350 Parrish St. in Canandaigua, from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14.
With on-site interviews, the job fair will be held in the hospital’s Constellation Center for Health and Healing, so those attending should enter the campus from West Street and park in the lot behind the hospital.
Thompson’s open positions include nursing, clinical support, nutrition services, social work, environmental services, clerical/customer service, and security.
The minimum starting wage at Thompson is $15 per hour. Tuition assistance – for staff members pursuing further education – is up to $6,000 per year for those employed full-time and up to $3,000 per year for those working part-time. There are additional initiatives to help associates advance in their careers, including an on-site RN-to-BSN program in partnership with Roberts Wesleyan College and a CNA-to-LPN program that covers tuition.

Finger Lakes Wines and Grapes: May weather good for vineyards

Wow: So far, May has been wonderful for grape growers. After a cold start to spring 2022 we had warm, dry, low humidity weather for a seven-day stretch, perfect for grape vine development. Early-ripening grape varieties have shoots 1-2 inches long, and the later-ripening grapes have the buds opening and leaf growth starting. This is an important period in grapevine development, as a heavy frost at this time could kill off the tender early growth. Warm days and cloudy breezy nights until the end of May would really be great. I hope Mother Nature helps us out.

Memorial Day was established as a holiday following the American Civil War as a way to honor those who had fallen in battle. It evolved to a day to honor any of our family or friends who have passed away. But on the lighter side, it is also a day to celebrate life.
