“Clucks for Bucks,” an annual chicken barbecue benefitting palliative care, returns on Thursday, Sept. 28, in the parking lot of Crosswinds Wesleyan Church, 3360 Middle Cheshire Road in Canandaigua.

The drive-thru event will begin at 3 p.m. and continue until the chicken is sold out. Prepared by Grove Barbecue Company of Naples, meals will include a marinated half chicken, salt potatoes, coleslaw, and a dinner roll.

The cost is $13 per person – or two for $25 – with proceeds benefitting the Palliative Care Program at the 178-bed M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, the skilled-nursing facility operated by UR Medicine Thompson Health on Parrish Street in Canandaigua.

Thompson to Host Free Hernia Screening Clinic Oct. 4

UR Medicine Thompson Health surgeons will offer a free hernia screening clinic in Canandaigua on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Thompson’s independent living community, Ferris Hills at West Lake on Peg Rayburn Drive.

Drs. A. David Peter and Joseph Talarico are master surgeons with Advanced Surgical Services at F.F. Thompson Hospital, designated a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery™ and Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery™ by the independent, non-profit Surgical Review Corporation. They will be joined at the screening by robotic-certified general surgeons Dr. Andrew Powers and Dr. Brad Hensley, also of Advanced Surgical Services.

In addition to meeting one-on-one with attendees to perform private screenings, the surgeons will answer questions about hernia causes and symptoms, as well as discuss the benefits of minimally-invasive surgery using daVinci

robotic-assisted technology. Those attending the clinic can also participate in a hands-on demonstration of the daVinci surgical robot.

National Preparedness Month

Did you know that September was National Preparedness Month?  Neither did I.  However, considering the tragedy that occurred in this country on September 11, 2001; hurricane season is looming, and winter is just around the corner, it makes a lot of sense. Read More.
