Thompson Flu Shot Clinics Continue Throughout Area

UR Medicine F.F. Thompson Hospital is holding a number of public flu clinics in a number of locations over the next several weeks.

Administered to those 9 and older at these clinics, the standard 2021-2022 vaccine provides protection against four flu viruses. This year there is a high-dose flu vaccine for those 65 and older. This contains additional antigen designed to create a stronger immune response in the person getting the vaccine.

Masks are required at the clinics, and the remaining schedule is as follows:

Monday, Sept. 27, 3-6:30 p.m., Hopewell Fire Department, 4018 Routes 5 and 20 in Hopewell
Wednesday, Sept. 29, 3-6:30 p.m., Victor Fire Department, 34 Maple Ave in Victor.
Monday, Oct. 4, 3-6:30 p.m., Farmington Town Hall, 1000 County Road 8 in Farmington
Wednesday, Oct. 6, 3-6:30 p.m., Veterans Park, 6910 Routes 5 and 20 in Bloomfield
Wednesday, Oct. 13, 3-6:30 p.m., Newark Urgent Care, 800 West Miller St. in Newark
Thursday, Oct. 28, Canandaigua Urgent Care, 699 S. Main St. in Canandaigua

As a courtesy, Thompson Health will bill Medicare, MVP products, BlueCross BlueShield products and commercial insurances. Patients must present an insurance card at the time of the visit. The self-pay cost is $40 and $75 for the high-dose vaccine (cash, check, MasterCard or Visa). Call (585) 924-1510 for more information.

Thompson to Temporarily Close Farmington Urgent Care

Medicine Thompson Health is temporarily suspending operations at its Farmington Urgent Care location, effective Saturday, Sept. 25. Through Friday, Sept. 24, the hours at the Farmington location will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Thompson officials said the upcoming, temporary closure is to consolidate and redeploy staff across its health system, offsetting current staffing challenges.

Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua is already experiencing high patient volumes in its Emergency Department, so hospital officials are encouraging local residents in need of urgent care to use Thompson’s other two urgent care locations once the Farmington location temporarily closes. Canandaigua Urgent Care, at 699 S. Main St., is 8.4 miles from the Farmington location. Newark Urgent Care, 800 W. Miller St, is 17 miles from the Farmington location. For hours, visit

. The website also offers a side-by-side comparison to show examples of situations calling for urgent care versus emergency care. At both locations, telemedicine is an option for some patients, depending on the nature of their illness.
